In this tutorial, you will create two parts; a shelf and a bracket. You will “assemble” them into one unit. Finally, you will generate drawings to work from. You are going to sketch a 2-dimensional image of a shelf that is 450mm long and 135mm wide. Then, you will turn it into a 3-Dimensional object by “extruding” it. After selecting the top plane, the origin will be displayed. Select the rectangle tool. Note that there are different types of rectangles. Select “corner rectangle”. An image will appear on the drawing area, illustrating a front, top, and right plane. Draw a rectangle on the drawing area, starting from the origin so that the bottom left corner of the rectangle is on the origin: You will end up with a green rectangle on the screen. Finish the rectangle by clicking on green the check mark in the rectangle properties window, or jsut double-click when you finish the rectangle. Next, select the “zoom to fit” icon from the viewing menu. (You may also take a little time to check the various functions of this menu. It is used for view sections, shaded versions, isometric and trimetric versions, wire frames, shadows etc. The icon next to “zoom to fit” is used for zooming in on a specific area.). The rectangle will expand into full view. Next, we will extrude the rectangle into a 3-d figure. This is the only object on the screen, so you do not have to select a specific surface. Normally, you select a “face” and choose a feature to apply. Simply go to the menu tabs and click on Features: Next, we will add four 4mm holes. Each will be 50mm from a short edge and 25mm from a long edge. There will be one hole in each corner. Next, you will create another separate part. After saving your shelf part, open a new part file for the shelf bracket. there will be two identical brackets, so you only need one part file. Generating Drawings. Now that the parts have been created and we have seen them fit together, we need to create drawings to work from. Next, use SMART DIMENSIONING to add dimension information to the drawing.
