Its a handbook how to use InfraRed Spectrograph S11, the first chapter is about Introduction, Summary of IRS Pipeline, Description of Modules in the ENGINEERING Pipeline. Chapter 2 Description of Modules in the BCD Pipeline. Description of Modules in the EXTRACTION Pipeline. Calculation of Errors 3.1 Flux Calibration Uncertainties 3.2 Wavelength Calibration Uncertainties. The purpose of this document is to give a short, yet comprehensive guide to version S11 of the IRS (InfraRed Spectrograph) data processing pipelines. The current version of the pipeline is S11.4.0. The changes in the pipeline since S11.0.2 are mostly in the uplink which does not a®ect the data received by the observer. In chapter 2 we explain the processing steps, in so far as they are relevant for scienti¯c observations. The last chapter gives an overview of the error propagation. There are currently nine di®erent pipelines that operate on data from the IRS and two more planned for use in the future. Only ¯ve of them, however, process science data: Pipe0, BCD (Basic Calibrated Data), 2D Coadd, Ex- traction Single, and Extraction Coadd. The others - Darkcal Single, Darkcal Ensemble, Photcal Single, and Flatcal Single - are used in the generation of calibration ¯les, a process that requires signi¯cant human intervention. As they are of less interest for most observers, their functionality is explained after engineering, science, and extraction pipelines. The TRANHEAD pipeline module translates and simpli¯es the DCE ¯ts ¯le header as it arrives at the Spitzer Science Center (SSC) from the Multimission Image Processing Laboratory (MIPL) to a standardized format for use in the pipeline. The data remain untouched by this process. CVTI2R4 is the ¯rst pipeline module that operates on data (TRANHEAD only changed the header): It converts 16-bit integer FITS ¯les to 32-bit real format. All following pipeline modules operate on 32-bit data. Description of Modules in the BCD Pipeline The science pipeline begins in an identical way to the Engineering Pipeline, with TRANHEAD and CVTI2R4. However, after that, rather than ending there, it continues through the following modules (See Figure 2.1).
