However, in order to read these fault codes some equipment is necessary. A Code Reader is used to instruct the vehicle’s ECU to download fault codes and present them to the user on a display. The Code Reader will activate that part of the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) programme which identifies the defective component and cause a code to be displayed.
