User Manual for Digital Reprography of Manuscripts using Canon EOS 1Ds Digital Camera System, The operational manual describes the use of the various devices and tools used to accomplish this. Much of the information in last year’s user manual is still valid—this manual will concern itself mostly with the operation of the Canon camera and its accompanying software. This user guide will only familiarize the user with the functions and controls that relate directly to the manuscript digitization. The Canon’s relevant controls can be easily manipulated from within the computer software known as “Remote Capture.” The user wanting to learn more about the camera’s operation can refer to Canon’s own manual for the camera. We have tested the Canon camera and its accompanying software for almost a year, putting it though rigorous trials involving thousands of photographs being made. In this process, we have learned much about the camera and its software and have identified the operational quirks that can trip up the process. These insights can be found scattered throughout this guide under the heading “TROUBLESHOOTING.” TROUBLESHOOTING: If the software is unable to connect to the camera and you get an error message. Several things might be wrong: 1. The camera isn’t turned on or otherwise has no power. 2. The IEEE 1394 cable is unplugged or loose. 3. THE IEEE 1394 cable is too long—5 meters is the limit. Rigorously following the guidelines presented here will result in the Canon providing reliable service for thousands of pictures, Manuscript with QP grayscale card in position.
