TY15135/E INTERFERENCE FIT PROBLEM An interference fit condition does exist involving some Chevrolet Beretta, Corsica and Cavalier models equipped with a 4-cylinder 2.0 litre engine which can cause damage to the oil filter resulting in oil leakage. A clamp which holds the constant velocity (C-V) joint boot cover in position can come in contact with the oil filter. The clinch tab of the boot clamp will strike the oil filter as the drive shaft turns, eventually wearing a hole in the filter shell. We feel this problem can be solved with proper torque during installation. Therefore, we recommend the following procedure for installing a TY25792/E & TY22085/E. 1.) Be sure adapter base is clean. 2.) Oil the gasket making sure it is properly seated in the retaining groove. 3.) Screw on until gasket contact is made with the base. 4.) Tighten 1-1 ¼ turns (approximately 15 foot pounds). (Use an acceptable filter wrench if necessary. (DO NOT EXCEED 1 ¼ TURNS!) 5.) Operate engine 3 to 5 minutes and check for leaks. The upper limit of this pressure is controlled by a pressure regulating valve which is usually an integral part of the pump. Figure 1 is a simplified diagram of the lube oil system showing the pump, regulating valve, filter and bearings.
