The Differences Between the Ford Mustang 1964.5 and 1965, this explanation can be an addition as Ford Owner’s manual. In early August 2004, Ford briefly stopped production on the Mustang which is considered the separation point between the 1964.5 and 1965 model years. During this time, a major change in the Mustang was the switch from generators to alternators. This was also when the VIN numbers were rounded up to 5FXXX250001 at Dearborn and 5RXXX125001 for San Jose. Please note that these differences cannot be easily classified as pre-shutdown or post-shutdown items as there is some overlap.
The differences in these items will be classified into five categories:
1. Interior
2. Exterior, Body & Wheels
3. Engine Compartment, Exhaust & Transmission
4. Electrical
5. Legends (things which have been listed as true about the 1964.5’s which actually are not true)
