As a printer technician, have you ever made one of the following statements when working on a new printer?
“There has got to be an easier way!” “I wish someone would have told me this before I started.” It’s frustrating when you spend hours trying to solve a problem, only to find out later that there was a simple solution. This article will save you time on one such situation you will encounter on the HP Color LaserJet (CLJ) 2500 or 1500.
It all started with a printer displaying an error code that wasn’t listed in the service manual. The printer, an HP CLJ
2500, does not utilize a control panel like some other printers do. It uses eight lights to indicate status (Figure 1). These lights are broken into two groups: supply status lights and printer status lights. The five supply status lights keep track of the consumables, such as the four color toner cartridges and the imag-ing drum. Since this article is about errors and printer status, we will not talk about these five lights.
